Choose the Right Smart Thermostat

Posted on 01-29-2020

A smart thermostat can help you through the long winter months and keep everyone from constantly adjusting the digits.  By now, we know that half of our energy bill goes to heating and cooling our homes.  It's time to be smart about our spending inside the home as well as outside.

First of all, be sure that the smart thermostat you select is compatible with your home's heating and cooling system.  And make sure the smart thermostat is within good range of your router if you're using one which requires WiFi.  This will help to minimize disconnections and interruptions.  You can add a WiFi range extender if it's not possible to place the smart thermostat close to router.

ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostats can include the following:

Remote control - By conneting to the internet, you can adjust your thermostat when you are away from home.  This is a great feature when away on vacation and wondering if you remembered to adjust the thermostat.

Learning temperature preferences - Some smart thermostats can learn your routine and automatically adjust temperature setting when you leave the house or when you go to bed at night.

Automatic updates - a smart thermostat may have the ability to automatically update software to be up-to-date on its functions.
